To Understand the Maker

Can a painting understand its painter?
It hasn’t any eyes
It cannot perceive color
It has no hands to a paintbrush ply

Can a poem understand its author?
It hasn’t any mind
It can’t perceive the nuances
Of poetic rhythm and rhyme

Can a building understand constructors
Or an architect’s design?
It cannot step back to see the vision
In its maker’s mind

Can a human understand Yahweh
With his finite mind?
Or can He only take His Word
By faith to receive life?

Given faith, a man can see
What Yahweh’s offering
Receiving all anointed dreams
And all the life He brings

And once that comes, with Yahweh
We can live in unity
Finally able to walk in faith,

Which is the eyes to see.
