The Golden Thread


Life is a Tapestry,
A beautiful creation woven together in love of various Threads—
Expression, relationship, experiences—
That depict a glory that can only be seen in totality,
A glory that is the Love-relationship between an individual and Yahweh

Some Threads are brightly colored depictions of joy and happiness,
Others somber colors of confusion and chaos,
But grief is the Golden Thread,
For it is the one that costs the most—it costs a person,
A relationship and way of being,
It costs a life,
An expression and way of living that is no longer available to you,
It costs everything,
And it changes the Tapestry forever

The Tapestry with the Golden Thread
Shines differently than any other Tapestry,
And the Thread adds a bittersweet beauty that comes from the ashes—
And can come from nowhere else
In its place, the Golden Thread dazzles,
It sparkles and shines a new glory that will never be found in any other Thread,
And somehow it adds beauty to the other Threads,
Even as it alters them ever so slightly,
And the Tapestry is greater for having the Threads that are Golden

So weave the Golden Thread gently into the Tapestry,
Do not attempt to cut it out and discard it,
For it is much too costly for that kind of treatment,
Do not attempt to dull its brightness so that others can be comfortable,
For that is not its place in the pattern of the design,
Do not fear its expression in the greater context,
For it is its own kind of beauty,
A special kind of wonderful,
Though you ache with its misery as it weaves around your heart

I can see value in the Golden Threads I carry,
Though they are heavy and full of pain,
And I will carry them forever and always,
For they are also beautiful and full of Yahweh’s Love.

Dust

 Dust is inherently spiritual, As we see from the fact that matter and energy inhabit both sides of the equals sign In the relative equation of life And though I was taught to value the things of the spirit beyond the things of the earth And then vilified for doing that too much , Still, I came to a place where I could be aware that they are and always have been the same   Dust to dust, As they say, And “from the dust you came, to dust shall you return,” But what happens to dust after dust it becomes? Love's Effigy

When I was a child, society taught me how to be loved: I had to act a certain way, Pick a certain job, Look a certain way, Believe certain things, And always give to everyone, Laying down my life for others, Taking the smaller half of a shared piece of cake, And being totally intolerant of anything and anyone that deviates from the acceptable norm, Even to the point of self-loathing When I did not conform   But love must be freely given to be love, So if I am changing who I am or altering how I act Or choosing a certain look, occupation, or belief, To make someone love me, I am not really being loved, I am manipulating people into demonstrating affection For an effigy that isn’t really me   And I think maybe it takes great faith to be yourself And trust that love will come to you anyway, If you choose to do what makes your heart sing, And to express your authentic inner soul   What a strange and inexplicable world we live in Because there is no truth in “If I’m good, they will love me,
